Art classes bring colour and connection to Livingwell customers

Thirty-three Wheatley customers living in Livingwell developments across the city took part in the 14-week programme.

The classes began with 20 customers at Marfield New before expanding to Livingwell sites in Kelvindale, where ten customers took part, and Maryhill, where three joined the programme.

Louise Dunlop, Interim Chief Executive Officer of Wheatley Care, said: “Our customers have really enjoyed the art classes. It gave them the opportunity to try something new in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

“The classes offered them much more than the chance to create artwork. They have helped customers improve their mental wellbeing by reducing feelings of isolation, giving them a positive focus each week and providing a calm space where they could relax and enjoy themselves.

“For many, simply having the opportunity to come together, chat and share ideas has made a real difference to their mood and overall sense of wellbeing.

“We are delighted that the sessions have been so well received and that customers have gained so much from being involved.”

Livingwell is a Wheatley Care service that helps people aged 55 and over to live independently in their own homes for as long as possible.
